Back on August 16, I had the pleasure to photograph Matt and May’s wedding at the W. K Kellogg Manor House on Gull Lake. I had only personally know the two of them for a short period of time, however, at a bonfire at his sister’s reception a few years back, we both had ticks bite us. Matt’s sister, Megan, is who I have known for years. As a long time friend, Megan referred me to her brother for the wedding.
I love referrals, and I love it even more when old friends get involved. As the photographer, I often feel as though I’m part of the bridal party, and this one was no different – where it WAS different, was the fact that Matt asked his sister to officiate the wedding. By the power of the internet, Megan was authorized to do so by the time the big day came around and proudly married her little brother. Matt and May were great to work with; easy going and laid back, but ready to get after it if the mood calls for it to be so.
The day was sunny and in the 70s and shared with an intimate crowd. The ceremony was lake side with a decent breeze followed by a great reception and meal up the hill in manor house. A perfect evening for a meal on the terrace, cocktails in the yard, and dancing all night with friends, the entire day went off without a hitch. As the evening wore to a close, the officiant had one last task for the bride and groom and the day was complete – at least for the majority of the attendees – Matt, May, and the rest of the bridal party were jumping on a bus, and headed to town to close to continue with the festivities…..
