Outside my manager’s office is a scene that I’ve been looking at everyday since I moved to that department four months ago. On friday I decided to bring my camera into work and asked her if she wouldn’t mind. She was a little confused and didn’t understand what my “vision” was. All she saw was people in an alley. I saw more.
It was difficult for me to get this image to look how I imagined it. It wasn’t as easy as I thought. I had to wait for the right smoke-break throughout the day to where I had everyone sitting how I liked it. At one point my boss mentioned that it looked as though one of the female staffers was sitting on a toilet. Turns out she was just sitting on a bucket and texting. But it did look that way. This was shot in the afternoon looking south. The sun was high and had gone west past the alley shining a strong light on the east building. It threw a darker shadow on the alley than it was in the morning, but I had no choice – I wanted to get the shot that day.
Those guys in the alley have always intrigued me, there’s just something about that calm they’re sharing right now before going back into the chaos.
